Description: The US Railroad Map Database is an accurate and comprehensive route system for the 50 United States and the District of Columbia. It includes rail ownership and station points.

Data Category: map file, point file.

Coverage: 50 United States and the District of Columbia

Units of Sale: Entire United States by State, or Individual States

Uses/Applications: The Railroad database was developed for analysis, viewing, and mapping of railroad systems with associated information about the rail line that aids in the many types of transportation applications involving rail, such as: Market Analysis, Fleet Management, Planning, Consultation, and Emergency Response.

Features/Benefits: The US Railroad database has been developed through extensive industry research and is continually being updated to reflect all the rail currently in operation. Railroad company names are also updated to represent all changes resulting from industry mergers and acquisitions. The database consists of a graphical layer of data that represents all major and short line railroad companies. Topology was built within each state and the rail lines were edge matched to provide the most accurate data available within and between states. Each of the rail lines are linked to a database that contains information about the ownership and usage of the rail lines (see below).

Also included with the US Railroad Map database is a text file that indicates the Reporting Marks and Names of each Railroad Company. As stated above, this file is also continually updated to provide the most current list of Railroad Names and Reporting Marks.

*Note : The Canadian Railroad Map Database and the Mexican Railroad Map Database have been edge-matched to the US Railroad Database to ensure a continuous rail data base for North America.
